Jordan Henderson is set to make a sensational return to Europe after eight months in Saudi Arabia in July.

In July last year, the former Liverpool captain joined Al-Ettifaq in a deal worth £12 million pounds from the Merseyside club.

Henderson signed a deal reportedly worth £700,000 a week to play under former teammate and manager of Al-Ettifaq, Steve Gerrard.

Henderson has been playing without pay for eight months

Since then, Henderson has not been paid any amount since signing, despite making 19 appearances for the club.

The England international has reportedly agreed to write off his owed salary in order to be able to leave the club and walk away from his three-year deal.

Henderson could be lining up for England again soon

After successful discussions between his representatives and Ajax Amsterdam, the 33-year-old is set to sign for the Dutch giants.

Henderson has reportedly agreed to take a massive pay cut to join the Eredivisie side.

He will become the highest earner at Ajax, on a weekly wage of 90,000 Euros (just over £77,000) before tax, plus lucrative bonuses.
