Senegalese are sweating over the fitness of midfielder Papa Matar Sarr who could miss the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The 21-year-old midfielder sustained a serious injury in the Premier League on Sunday.

Pape Matar Sarr started the match against Bournemouth by opening the scoring for Tottenham Hotspur after 9 minutes of play. However, an unfortunate injury ended his contribution to the match rather early.

Spurs eventually won the match by 3-1 to stay in 5th place with 39 points, just one behind Arsenal.

The Senegalese received some treatment on the pitch after collapsing just before the break. After a fruitless attempt to continue the match, Sarr was eventually forced to give up his place shortly after the half-hour mark.

Senegal coach Aliou Cisse is waiting for the results of the examinations as they begin their pre-tournament camp on Monday.

Sarr was named in Senegal’s final list of 27 players selected for the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

If Sarr is not able to make the tournament, Senegal have 72 hours to replace him on their official list.
