A Ghanaian renowned award winning rapper Michael Owusu Addo professionally known by the name Sarkodie A.K.A Obede pon bede is one of the musical artist who has contributed to the building of the Ghana Music Industry which stands firm today. His Genres of music are hip-hop, hip-life and Afrobeats.
Sarkodie was born and raised in Tema. He attended Achimota preparatory school where he graduated and had an admission to Tema Methodist Day Senior High School. After completion, he proceeded to IPMC where he pursued graphic design course and earned a beautiful degree in it.
He began his music career as an underground rapper who participated in High school rap battles and then later jumped on to Adom FM’s rap competition Kasahare Level. He met his former manager Duncan Williams of Duncwills Entertainment while taking part in the aforementioned competition. He also met musicians Edem and Castro, who introduced him to Hammer of The Last Two,an established record producer. Being taken aback by his wild flows, Hammer allowed Sarkodie to record two tracks for his album Volta Regime.
Tracing his collaboration with Hammer, Sarkodie recorded his debut album Makye. Its production was primarily handled by Killbeatz and Jayso. The album features guests appearances from Kwaw Kese, J-Town, Sway and Paedae of R2Bees. Makye received positive reviews from critics and fans. It was supported by a concert held at Holy City Gardens in Accra. On 16th September 2009, Sarkodie performed alongside Busta Rhymes at the Busta Rhymes Live in Ghana concert. In 2010, his “Push” and “Baby” songs were ranked ninth and thirteenth on Joy FM’s Top 50 songs of 2009, respectively. The album’s lead single “Baby” became an instant hit and gave Sarkodie exposure.
