President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku has criticised the National Sports Authority (NSA) over their decision to close down the Accra Sports Stadium to sporting activities.

In a post on the social media platform Facebook, the GFA president described the decision as unacceptable.

“What the NSA has done to football and sports this month should NEVER happen again.  It’s just not acceptable!!!” he said.

The facility is used by Ghana Premier League clubs Accra Hearts of Oak, Great Olympics and Accra Lions.

Due to the decision, the biggest fixture on the Ghanaian football calendar; Hearts of Oak versus Asante Kotoko, was moved from Accra to Kumasi last weekend.

Not available for sports but available for ‘soloku’! The Accra Sports Stadium now hosts musical concerts instead of sports events.

It has however been released for music concerts.

The first of those was a gospel concert that featured musicians such as Joe Mettle and Nigeria’s Nathaniel Bassey.

The facility is also billed to host dance hall artiste Stonebwoy’s annual “Bhim Concert” next week.

In November the NSA informed football clubs that the Accra Sports Stadium would not be rented out for sporting activities.
The decision, according to the NSA, was to make the facility available for entertainment programs to generate revenue.

For many years now the NSA has denied access to the venue during the month of December.

Instead, the sports facility is rented out to churches, banks, and events organisers for various entertainment and religious programs.
