AFCON 2023 hosts Côte d’Ivoire have progressed to the semi-final stage after a 2-1 win over Mali.

The hosts were made to dig deep after Odilon Kossounu was sent off in the fist half after receiving a second yellow card.

However, Mali could not take advantage of their numerical superiority until midway through the second half.

The breakthrough came when Ivorian-born Nene Dorgeles curled home a beauty from 25 yards out.

Mali were however pegged back when substitute Simon Adingra scored in stoppage time to force extra time.

There would be more misery for Mali when the hosts struck again and this time, for good.

Omar Diakite flicked in Seko Fofana’s effort right on the cusp of fill time.

Diakite was shown a second yellow card for removing his shirt while celebrating his winning goal for Côte d’Ivoire.

He will now miss Wednesday’s semi final match against DR Congo.
