Australian politician Peta Jan Murphy. She served as a representative for the Australian Labor Party in the House of Representatives, representing the Victorian seat of Dunkley, from 2019 until she died in 2023.
Murphy graduated from the Australian National University with a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) and a Bachelor of Laws. He also holds a Master of Criminology degree from the University of Melbourne.
Before entering parliament, Murphy held positions as an attorney, barrister, Victoria Legal Aid Senior Public Defender, Team Leader at the Victorian Law Reform Commission, and Chief of Staff to Labour Shadow Minister Brendan O’Connor MP.
Following Bruce Billson’s retirement in 2016, Murphy ran for Dunkley for the first time, winning a 4.1% swing but falling short against Liberal candidate Chris Crewther.

Peta Murphy, a labor politician, was just 37 years old when she underwent a double mastectomy and her initial breast cancer diagnosis in 2011.
The newly re-elected MP recently switched from oral to intravenous chemotherapy, which caused her hair to start falling out earlier this month.
Ms. Murphy will resume her normal duties when parliament reconvenes in Canberra next month, even though she is among the 10,000 Australians who suffer from metastatic breast cancer.
