A member of Parliamentary Committee on Sports and Member of Parliament(MP) for Afigya Kwabre North of the Ashanti Region, Hon Collins Adomako Mensah is wondering why the senior national team, the Black Stars was not able to deliver at the ongoing African Cup of nation held in La Côte D’Ivoire after government invested huge sums of money in the team.
According to the lawmaker, the government of Ghana over the years has done everything possible including giving the team special treatment so that they together with the coach can deliver but there has not been any better outcome.
Speaking on Kumasi-based Angel FM, he revealed that, the kind of treatment the players and officials have been receiving from the government is overwhelming and non-comparable to benefits any civil servant in the country gets
“I’m on the sports committee and I know the kind of package we give to our footballers and people who follow them to tournaments. It comes to parliament all the time. And there is no ordinary Ghanaian who works as a civil servant who can compare himself to them”, he stated
He further explained that, “even officials who follow the team to tournament, nobody can compare himself to them. They are well taken care of. They sleep in the best hotels, and everything that has to be done, we have done it”.
Hon Collins Adomako Mensah has also called for the resignation of the Black Stars coach Chris Hughton.
The call by the lawmaker comes after the senior national team Black Stars after appearing at the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) performed abysmally especially their last match with Mozambique where the team draw in a controversial last minutes goals they conceded.
