The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) will be going to the polls today to elect its parliamentary candidates for the 2024 election.

The political party in 2023 elected parliamentary candidates for their orphan constituencies.

The party has suspended the Akuapem South elections. This is because the party wants to consult further before elections take place after the incumbent member of parliament decided to pull out at the last minute.

In the Nhyeaso constituency in the Ashanti Region, the election was put on hold due to a court issue, however, the issue has been cleared and the contest is expected to take place as scheduled.

18 experienced MPs have decided not to contest as they have decided not to return to Parliament in 2025.

Delegates made up of polling station and constituency executive, electoral area coordinators, council of elders and patrons, and founder members, would decide the fate of incumbents and new entrants.

A total of 322 aspirants who were cleared to contest in the primaries will slug it out in 101 constituencies in 15 out of the 16 regions. The NPP has no seat in the Oti Region.

Voting is expected to start at 7am and end at 2pm across the various polling stations if everything goes as planned.
