Former Information and now Works and Housing Minister Vincent Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has launched a website suspected to be in furtherance of a “long-term Presidential ambition”.

The minister who is speculated to have a Presidential ambition launched the website quietly where he projects himself and his ongoing activities.

The website, konkrumah.com chronicles the achievements and activities of the politician from the Information Ministry to his current job at the Ministry of Works and Housing.

It also highlights his works as Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi in the Eastern Region of Ghana with series of news stories and pictures.

So far he is the only current minister in the Akufo-Addo government with such a personal self-promotion website.

Some observers noted the website for Oppong Nkrumah is not surprising as presidential candidates usually launch websites to chronicle their campaign  activities and to reach potential donors among other things.

Checks show Oppong Nkrumah’s Presidential website was Registered on 27th March 2023 and updated some seven months later on 1st October.  The registration is expected to expire on 27th March 2027 and could likely be renewed.

It must however be stated that the minister has not officially or unofficially stated whether or not he intends to run for the NPP flagbearership in the future or not. His name was speculated as a possible Bawumia running mate but was quickly shot down.

President Akufo-Addo, John Atta Mills, John Mahama and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia all launched personal websites for their presidential aspirations using it as medium to market themselves and to chronicle campaign activities.

Kojo Vincent Oppong Nkrumah (born 5 April 1982) is a Ghanaian politician  and lawyer. He is the member of parliament for the Ofoase-Ayirebi constituency. Having served as theMinister of Information since November 2018, he was appointed as the Minister of Works and Housing during a Ministerial reshuffle on Wednesday, February 14,2024.

Nkrumah was born in Koforidua,in the Eastern Region of Ghana. His parents are Kwame Oppong Nkrumahand Felicia Oppong Nkrumah. His mother was a teacher and his father wasinitially a teacher before becoming a banker. He hails from Akim Anyinase.

Education

Nkrumah had his basic schooleducation at St. Bernadette Soubirous School in Dansoman, continuedto Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary in Koforidua forhis senior high education and later studied at the University of CapeCoast, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Commerce. In 2012 hegraduated with an MBA in Marketing from the University of Ghana, Legon.In 2014 he was awarded a bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) at the GIMPA Facultyof Law after two years of studies. In 2016 he was called to the Bar as abarrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana.

Before embarking on his legal career, he had undertaken and successfully completed a Fellowship with the African Leadership Initiative. This experience not only enriched his knowledge and perspective but also contributed significantly to his personal and professional growth.

To give back to society, Nkrumah founded the Oppong Nkrumah Education and Skills Development Fund in 2017 to provide education and skills development support for the youth of his constituency. Between 2017 and 2022, the fund has provided scholarships to more than 300 constituents across different tertiary institutions in the country.

Career

Nkrumah started his career as aTreasury Analyst at British American Tobacco in 2006. He moved onto Joy FM as a broadcast journalist, hosting the Super Morning Show afterthe departure of host Komla Dumor. In 2014 Nkrumah bowed out ofbroadcasting to establish an investment firm, West Brownstone Capital. By2016, he had become a lawyer practising at Kulendi, Attafuah and Amponsah atlaw.

He was selected as one of theworld’s 115 Young Global Leaders for 2020 by the World Economic Forum.

Politics

In 2015, he contested and won the NPP parliamentary primaries for Ofoase-Ayirebi constituency in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

He won this parliamentary seat during the 2016 Ghanaian general elections. He was also the longest-serving Minister for Information serving in this portfolio from 2018 to February 2024.

He additionally served as a member of the Finance and Constitutional Committees of the 7th and 8th Parliaments of Ghana. He is currently the President’s Representative at the Minister of Works and Housing.

In August 2023, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, as the Minister of Information, urged CSOs and media to back efforts for diplomatic resolution to the crisis in Niger.

Personal Life

Kojo is married to Akua, andthey are both devoted Christians. They have four children so far, Kwaku, Afua,Araba and Kofi.
