Former President of Ghana and Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama says the Office of the Special Prosecutor was established to persecute political opponents.
He says regardless of the reason behind its establishment, the office currently investigates everyone and that does not sit well with the government.
John Mahama is of the view that this is the reason the office is not given the free will to carry out its investigations into matters.
“I know why it was established. It was established to go after political opponents. Unfortunately, the special prosecutor is investigating everybody and now that he’s biting their own people suddenly the special prosecutor can’t do this, he can’t seize money. The last time he was very frustrated,” he said.
The former President speaking on corruption in Ghana, he indicated that it is now a big worry for Ghana.
He said currently, citizens have now become numb to scandals because of the way it keeps recurring.
