Member of Parliament (MP) for Bosome Freho Constituency in the Ashanti Region and also a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Hon Akwasi Darko Boateng has said Parliament will still have to consult seasoned lawmakers like the Majority Leader Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and Deputy Speaker Joseph Osei-Owusu even after they have exited the house.
“With the senior MPs like O.B Amoah, Joe Ghartey, Kyei Mensah Bonsu among others who have bowed out of Parliament, I believe we could still consult them in our difficult times”, Mr Akwasi Darko Boateng told the media in an interview.
“I’m sure we’ll consult them even if they are out of parliament especially when we have any difficulty in our discussion. And I’m also certain they will be ready to come and help”, he added.
Mr Akwasi Darko Boateng’s suggestion comes days after some senior members of Parliament on the ticket of the NPP bowed out of the house as they did not file nomination to go back to the house.
After the NPP announced the opening of the nomination form for aspiring members of Parliament, Majority Leader in Parliament Hon Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu bowed out after he did not file for nomination.
Others include, Deputy Speaker in Parliament and MP for Bekwai, Joseph Osei, Mr KT Hammond, Hon Samuel Atta Kyea MP for Abuakwa South, Kennedy Ohehe Agyapong MP for Assin Central and Presidential candidate aspirant of the NPP, Hon Francisa Oteng, Hon Benito Owusu Bio MP for Atwima Nwabiagya North among others have all bowed out of Parliament.
Similarly, about 17 incumbent members on the minority side (NDC) like Alhaji ABA Fuseini, Dr Kwabena Donkor, Dr Augustine Tawiah also lost their primaries to go back to Parliament in 2025.
However, Hon Akwasi Darko Boateng speaking to Angel News argued that the exit of these experienced lawmakers is going to affect the activities of parliament in the years ahead if they are not engaged.
“If all these experienced individuals leave the house, it will of course have a great impact on the activities of the house especially people like our leader (Kyei Mensah Bonsu)”, he said, describing the parliament as a school where students (MPs) graduate from one stage to another while they gradually gain experience.
