Cape Verde playmaker Ryan Mendes says Sunday’s 2-1 win over Ghana was revenge for their previous AFCON defeat to Ghana.

In February 2013, Mubarak Wakasu scored a brace of goals to send Ghana into the semi-final stage of the competition with a 2-0 win over Cape Verde.

After 11 years, Cape Verde got their much awaited revenge on Sunday thanks to a stoppage time winner.

Speaking at full time, Ryan Mendes who was present in the 2013 defeat, said the result was payback for their previous loss to Ghana.

Cape Verde are now top of Group B with three points after Mozambique and Egypt played out a pulsating 2-2 draw on Sunday.

Cape Verde have the chance to qualify for the next stage of the competition when they take on Mozambique on Thursday.
