Africa Cup of Nations hosts Côte d’Ivoire have sacked coach Jean-Louis Gasset two days after their 4-0 defeat against Equatorial Guinea.
Gasset will be led replaced by Emerse Fae, one of his assistant coaches, on an interim basis.
The country’s football federation said it had “terminated the contracts” of 70-year-old Gasset and his assistant Ghislain Printant “due to insufficient results”.
Côte d’Ivoire are on the brink of elimination after suffering the heaviest home defeat in the country’s history.
The defeat makes them the first Afcon host to lose two group games since they did so in 1984.
The Ivorians could only manage three points in Group A following another defeat to Nigeria (1-0).
They won their opening match by 2-0 win against Guinea-Bissau.
The Elephants can still progress to the last 16 as one of the best third-placed teams.
