Former President of Ghana and flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, says he is against LGBTQI+.

He says he is a member of the Assemblies of God Church, and his faith is against it.

“My faith is against LGBTQ+. I am a member of the Assemblies of God. The faith I have does not allow men to marry men and women to marry women. The bill in parliament has not been passed yet, but the government has shown that if the law is passed, the president will not agree to it.

The Attorney General says the private member’s motion can be passed, but it should not become the responsibility of the government. The president, based on that technicality, will not sign the bill into law. Between Parliament and the Executive, they will have to check and see if they can take off any bills from the government so that the President will sign,” he said.

He continued “I believe a man is a man, and a woman is a woman. You can’t just wake up one morning and say you feel like a woman when you are not a woman. So if you ask me, my personal faith is against it.”
