John Hurst was a famous English former professional footballer. Born in Blackpool, Lancashire, Hurst joined the youth system for Everton, making his first team debut in the 1965–66 season.

John Hurst was born on February 6, 1947, in Blackpool, United Kingdom.

John Hurst has been confirmed dead at the age of 76.

The former center-back also referred to as “Gentleman Jack,” made 404 appearances for the team over the course of 11 years, tallying 34 goals.

Only 16 players have made more appearances in Everton’s 145-year history, solidifying Hurst’s status as a Goodison Park icon.

According to an Everton statement, Hurst died quietly at home after a protracted illness.
