General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Justin Frimpong Kodua , has given the assurance that the uncertainty surrounding who won the NPP parliamentary primary election in the Yendi Constituency will be resolved as soon as possible.

He stated that the decision of NPP delegates as to who will be the party’s parliamentary candidate in the Yendi Constituency for the 2024 General Elections will be protected as the party works to resolve the issue.

During the counting of ballots after voting on Saturday, January 27, 2024, in the parliamentary primaries, chaos ensued as heavily built men stormed the counting centre and scuttled the process. The incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Farouk Aliu Mahama, will later be announced as the winner over his opponent Hajia Abibata Shani Mahama Zakariah. But she promptly rejected the announcement.

Speaking in an interview with Asaase Radio on the impasse, Justin Kodua Frimpong declared that no matter how difficult the challenges in resolving the issue will be, it shall be resolved.

“Well, it has to be resolved, no matter how difficult it will be. It has to be resolved and all the reports that will come from Yendi, one from the regional party and also from the reps that we sent there, from the Electoral Commission and the Ghana Police, will all influence what decision will be taken…But, it has to be resolved, and it will be resolved. On the part of the party, I can say that everything went on smoothly just as we were anticipating …It is our duty to make sure that we affirm the decisions of the delegates across the country,” he said.

He assured that the national executive will meet to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
