Ghana have suffered a group stage exit for the second time in a row after a 2-2 draw with Mozambique on Monday night.

The Black Stars failed to protect a two-goal lead in their final Group B game of the tournament to draw 2-2 with Mozambique.Ghana raced into a two goal lead through a Jordan Ayew brace from the penalty spot.

However, the four-time champions were pegged back when Geny Catamo and Reinildo scored deep into stoppage time to deny the Black Stars all three points.

The first of Jordan Ayew’s penalty goals came after 15 minutes following a foul on Joseph Paintsil.

Paintsil who swapped flanks with Ayew, took on two defenders before he was tripped inside the box.

The Black Stars failed to consilidate their lead as Mozambique grew into the game.

However, they failed to make Ghana pay for their laissez-faire attitude.

Ghana coach Chris Hughton was forced into a substitution after Majeed Ashimeru sustained an injury. He was replaced by Baba Iddrisu.

After recess, Bruno Langa nearly restored parity but his header from close range went wide.

Mozambique’s sloppiness in front of goal was punished when Ghana won a second penalty after Mohammed Kudus effort was blocked by Reinildo’s arm.

Jordan Ayew stepped up and made no mistake from the spot, giving Ghana a 2-0 advantage.

With the game seemingly done, Mozambique were handed a lifeline when Andre Ayew’s arm struck the ball in the penalty box.

The resultant penalty was converted to reduce the deficit.

With seconds remaining on the clock, Richard Ofori gave away a corner kick when he did not need to touch the ball.

The resultant corner was converted by Atletico Madrid defender Reinildo, sending Mozambique into ecstasy, and Ghana into agony.Ghana have now been eliminated after amassing just two points from three group B matches.
