Mark Woyongo’s voice resonated throughout Ghana as a journalist and then as a lawmaker. As a regional minister with the heart of a journalist, he promoted regional development in the Upper East.

However, misfortune struck with a deadly blow, followed by the appointment as Interior Minister.

Even when political winds changed, he faced security concerns with a steely gaze.

Despite the conclusion of his term in parliament, his legacy lives on as a voice for a region and a bridge between groups that will always be a part of Ghana’s history.

Hon. Woyongo has held a variety of posts over his career in politics and communications. He was the public relations officer for the Upper East Regional Administration from 1978 till 1985.

He began serving as the regional information officer for the Upper East Region in 1985, and he held that position until 1994, when he was appointed Minister Counselor for Information at the Ghana High Commission in London, United Kingdom.

He was the Minister for the Upper East Region from 2009 until 2012. He participated in and won the 2012 legislative elections on the NDC ticket.

He first served as the Upper East Regional Minister before being appointed to the Ministry of the Interior and then the Ministry of Defense in 2013.

Some of his social media followers are lamenting his death, which is thought to have happened on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, however, it is unclear where he passed away.

Did Mark Woyongo Have Kids?

Yes indeed, the late Mark Woyongo was blessed with two children in his life. Unfortunately, in 2023, Mark Woyongo lost his son Kenneth Kwotua Woyongo at the age of 49.
