From journalist to parliamentarian, Mark Woyongo’s voice boomed across Ghana. In Upper East, he championed regional development, a regional minister with a journalist’s heart.

Yet, fate dealt a cruel hand – a near-fatal crash, then the mantle of Minister for the Interior.

He tackled security challenges, his gaze resolute, even as political tides shifted.

Though his time in parliament ended, his legacy lingers: a bridge between communities, a voice for a region, forever etched in Ghana’s story.

Over the course of his political and communication career, Hon. Woyongo has occupied a number of positions. From 1978 until 1985, he served as the Upper East Regional Administration’s public relations officer.

He started as the Upper East Region’s Regional Information Officer in 1985 and stayed in that role until 1994, when he was named Minister Counselor for Information at the Ghana High Commission in London, UK.

From 2009 to 2012, he served as the Upper East Region’s Minister. On the NDC ticket, he ran and won the 2012 legislative elections.

After serving as Upper East Regional Minister, he was named Minister of Defense in 2013 and thereafter to the Ministry of the Interior.

It is not clear where he died, but some of his followers on social media are mourning his death believed to have occurred on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.

We will update you as and when we confirm the cause of his death. He was 75 years old.

Who Is Cecilia Wuni Woyongo?

Cecilia Wuni Woyongo can be best described or referred to as the wife of the late minister Mark Woyongo.

Mark and his wife Cecelia were married for many decades before death came to separate them.

They were blessed with two children.
